Energy Deregulation has created marketing and customer management opportunities for many of the industry participants. Now, more than ever before it's important to know your value proposition in the market, establish and protect your brand and manage the relationships with your customers.
Oil & Gas Services The oil and gas industry is in a very favorable position right now with $45 oil per barrel. The industry could face a downturn in the next 24 months and it's going to be important for those companies in the service industry to have marketing programs in place to protect their position in their given markets. The next factor that makes this industry exciting is that it's been typically run by the "old boy's network" but this is quickly changing and establish marketing programs with customer relationship management practices are necessary to make sure that the customer knowledge doesn't walk out the door when the old guard retires.
 
Financial Services The baby boom is creating a boom in wealth management. The number of Canadians retiring in the next 10 years is significantly higher than at any other time in history. More and more Canadians are needing wealth management and retirement planning and it's imperative for the companies that deliver these services to manage the customer relationships properly. In addition with a marketing information system it's very possible for the firms to attract and win new business in this quickly expanding market.
High Tech There are a number of high technology companies, particularly in the online world that don't have customer management programs. In many cases these companies have grown very quickly and have very little data on their customers. It's imperative for these companies to establish a marketing plan to help them sustain growth levels. The second aspect of this is to manage the relationship with the customer throughout the product life cycle. Many of these companies state that it's easy to get the customer with the new technology or better "mousetrap" but it's hard to keep the customer engaged as the relationship progresses.
Media & Advertising Media and advertising companies have traditionally had poor sales tracking and lead generation programs. The media hasn't been quick to embrace new technology that would enable them to consolidate their many information sources and to mine the data for additional opportunities.
